Give it 300-350 km of range (should be feasible by 2025, right?) and I'm buying one.

Toyota is rumored to be considering teaming up with another car-maker
Would make sense, as the GT86 is a rebadged Subaru and the Supra is a rebadged BMW. So who develop the mk4 MR2 for Toyota?
My money is on Renault(/Nissan). They’ve got way more experience with fun to drive cars than 21st century Toyota, offer an excellent MR coupe (Alpine A110 ) and build the best selling electric car in the EU market (Renault ZOE).

But what’s in it for the Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance? It isn’t volume...
Mazda would make some sense.
And yet it all seems like the wishful thinking of middle aged automotive pundits..

If it’s petrol powered, I’m hoping for/betting on Lotus. Toyota gets handling magic, Lotus gets a steady source of income and can offer a more upmarket version of the same chassis.
Or Caterham, as they still own the design IP for their half of the A110 project, but need a willing partner to provide funding.
If it’s electric, all bets are off, as you just need a modular “ skateboard” with the possibility of RWD.

If it’s electric it’s not mid engined. If it’s not mid engined it’s not an MR2.
But this article is mostly speculation anyway, I believe scarcely a word of it.
